Lee Gosnay born 30/04/1976, Manchester

Being born on a Friday I must have always had that Friday living for it feel installed in me from day one. My parent’s background wasn’t very musical, although my mum and dad were very much into the 60’s and 70’s music: - Beatles, Kinks, and Supremes etc.
I used to always put on my Dads vinyl and crank it up loud, especially Star Wars, which was my favorite. During my school days I was into the indie music thing, with the Stone Roses being most listened too. The Doors were also a big inspiration to me at that time along with Primal Scream’s Screamadilica and New Order. |
Dance music wise 808state’s Ninety and Excel were always in the tape deck along with the Prodigy, Stereo Mc’s and K Klass. My first record buy was ‘Oh Yeah’ by Yello on 7 inch.

My first clubbing experience was at Home in Manchester in 1994, with Mory Kante "Yeke Yeke" being remembered to this day. The Hacienda followed with the classic nights being my most enjoyable along with Northern Exposure. I had many good nights at Cream with. Paul Oakenfold in the Anexxe being an inspiration for me, as he knew how to take the crowd on a more underground journey back then. Sasha was also a pleasure to hear with his progressive house and breaks.

Having bought Renaissance one and a Sasha at Hanley’s tape after my first few clubbing nights, I started buying the odd record before buying some belt driven decks at 19 with my student loan. I bought various different records of different styles, House, Garage, Chicago, Progressive and Goa, before settling mainly on Progressive house back then. Over the years I have broadened my music taste further, with deep house being the core of what I play. I started dj-jng at a few parties, doing the odd pub and wedding do’s. I eventually got my 1210 technics decks and not long after that I did a monthly night at Chester in 1999 called Potent. In 2001 I did another monthly night called Abode at Zumbar in Manchester with relative success.

After a welcome six week break in Thailand at the end of 2001 I came back and in 2002 gained a weekly residency at Simple bar, Manchester. I called this Persona and now it’s in its fourth year. In October 2003 I acquired a weekly residency at Manto’s Breakfast club in Manchester. In which, I played various styles in order to please all and create something new and underground to the gay scene. This continued to February 2005 and got me used to playing long five hours sets, with which I experimented and developed my own style. In May 2004 I played in the back room with Homegrown for the Stylus night and guested at various other venues like Industry, Atlas, Barca etc in Manchester.
In the last year or so I have taken Persona to club level at venues across
Manchester such as the Music Box and Scu Basement. I have hosted various
charity nights for Huntington's Disease Association under the name of
Universal and I am also about to begin a new residency at Room in Manchester
starting in May called Rebirth of a Soul.
