Persona to go on Summer Tour 07

Dates and Venues to be confirmed over the coming weeks!

There will be a good range of venues and events chosen in order to widen the scope of Persona's sounds and styles. This willl enable new singers and musicians to join in with Lee's varied music and for him to play across the board. This will also enable us to tailor our music for particular live Music venues, clubs and festivals.

The Vision

Persona came about 5 years ago when I wanted to create a sound and vibe that touched every individual person, it had to feel personal to them in some shape or form, that was the challenge I set myself.  I felt the need to develop a sound and style that had many tangents to it.  I didn’t want to be associated in a certain bracket of Music.  I felt the necessity to excite, inspire, and involve people.  I always dj for the people first, by weighing up the mood, the venue/theme and then let my Musical soul take its route in the only true way I know.  This way I am being true to the people by giving a full expression of my emotional self so they get the full expansion of my Music through my dj-ing.

Persona is about creating Music to make you Think and Feel, Music that had Many Sounds and Styles that caused a stir in the mind, body and soul.  It has to have emotion and depth whilst always evolving in an almost organic way.  I set out on providing a platform to develop my own event.  Ideally playing a minimum of 3 hours I like my music to be a journey that has mystery and suspense.  To do this I had to want to learn more about Music and keep searching for new music in order to develop and perform to a higher standard every time I played.

My ambition and long term aim was to have my own club event that reaches audiences who are broad-minded enough to want something different yet familiar at the same time, this is now being achieved.

The Path

Here’s how the story began; starting off at a bar called Simple, Tib Street Manchester at a 30th birthday party for over 100 people back in the Summer of 2001.  I got asked to dj for a 30th birthday party and took down all my own equipment to Simple for a party of 100 or so people.  The party was a great success and the manager of Simple was also very impressed by what he heard.  After a trip away to Thailand I came back and persisted with demo cd’s before finally getting my weekly residency which started back in May.

The Direction

After nearly five years of playing nearly every week at Simple, I have not only developed my own event to club level by playing at venues such as Music Box, Manchester but I have now surpassed this by creating other elements to the Persona vibe.  Using my own Ohm sound system for nearly all of my events to give a clean, crisp sound, the overall sound quality has more depth which gives greater musical pleasure for everyone.

The Live element was always something I wanted to create but now things are in full flow as I have allowed for change and adaptation to open up other avenues and possibilities to provide even more sounds and styles plus visuals to give the event another dimension.  Going with the times you could say or maybe being one step ahead, whatever you want to call it I wanted to be innovative in my own way!  So things have evolved and moved along but it has been a long journey so far and to be honest it only just feels like its getting started.  For me Persona has so many souls to reach and hasn’t been heard by enough yet so do be broad-minded and book Persona for something different refreshing and unique.

We can tailor our performances for different events, for example playing electronic music for an event like Futuesonic Festival or playing a more Funked up, Soulful, jazzy breaks set that’s non house music for a live music venue.  We can provide music for any type of club, live venue or festival and provide appropriate musicians and visuals for these types of events.

Persona + Deadwasps New Years Eve 06/07

After having a quiet one last year, I decided that this year it was time to drag myself off the sofa. Some friends were going to Simple in the Northern Quarter, somewhere I would have never even thought to spend my New Year’s Eve, so I decided to tag along.

Avoiding the groups of girls in fairy wings and pink cowboy hats and the hair gel brigade walking down Oxford Street, we found our way to Simple, where £7 bought us entry into the most laid back NYE party I’ve ever encountered.

Like a secret haven of cool hidden out of sight of Manchester’s crowds and pretenders, Simple’s end of year bash, Persona, was a perfect way to see in 2007. The clientele were mixed, but very friendly and unpretentious, while the bar staff were all fantastic and didn’t seem even a bit cheesed off to be working New Year’s Eve.

The night kicked off at 8pm with up and coming indie-electronic band The Dead Wasps (www.deadwasps.co.uk) playing a one hour set. At this point I was at home drying my hair, and so missed out. But not to worry, as The Dead Wasps’ stunning vocalist Hayley joined in with the later DJ sets to provide some improvised vocals to Persona’s “deep beats, house grooves, soulful vocals, jazzy vibes, electronic melodies, breakbeat and drum n’ bass”. Now I have no idea what half of those terms actually mean, but they were bloody brilliant.

Several tequila shots and some awesome dancing later, and we welcomed in 2007 to the sounds of John Lennon’s Imagine. After that it all gets a little blurry to be absolutely honest, but a terrific time was had by all.

Thank you Simple, for reforming me and helping me to see the fun that can be had on New Year’s Eve. I will be returning.
