broad-minded presents.....Universal

13 th April 2006 @ Scu Basement

This event proved to be a real success as Universal went public for the first time. The vibe from start to finish was a pleasure to be involved in and everyone played their part in a great event about awareness.

Everyone was receptive of the music on show and considering there were 7 dj's a guitarist and a percussionist all involved on one night the music couldn't have flowed any better, it was spotless. Other aspects of the event included Jerry's brilliant live performance, with which he got the crowd to participate superbly. The Vj-ing by G-Zuf was of the highest and most imaginative calibre which also managed to encapture the feeling of being Universal, open-minded and charitable to one and another.

The event was held in the intimate surroundings of Scu basement and the room had been given a good feel lift with décor and positive information regarding being charitable and literature on Huntington's Disease Association. Posters were put up commenting on "Why we give to charity" and "Monies raised so far". The event was about raising awareness in many forms and by the time the room filled up there was a great buzz and anticipation within the room of what was going to happen next.

Matt started off the proceedings with an ecletic mix of soul, funk, and disco jems whilst Mike C was providing the freestyle percussion. He was a tremendous asset to the success of the night along with Des' subtle but very effective guitaring melodies which kept things musically live and interesting throughout the evening. Ben Sebastain then continued by playing some Dub, Disco and classics like Inner City Life's Good Life before Jerry made his entrance with his own track, a broken beat soulful number. Jerry decided to get the audience involved with this one and it worked a treat, everyone was enjoying it. Dave Law then took to the decks with a lovely Soulful jazzy house set which left off from Jerry's song beautifully.

The evening was now in full flow and Gary played some disco and percussive tunes with Sugardaddy " Love Honey being played. Darren Cocks then continued with some nice deep hypnotic house which was the perfect tonic and time for Viking to up the tempo with some techno funk and nu skool breaks before Lee Gosnay finished off with some Percussive funk, electronic breaks and Drum N Bass. A drum n bass remix of Paul Weller was played near the end before finishing off with Prodigy's Voodoo People and Tom Jones Art of Noise Kiss.

Monies raised for HDA totalled £220 and gave more people an awareness of the illness. Universal again provided plenty of entertainment and enjoyment for all and hopefully made people think about being more charitable to one and another.
